University Campus Facilities

From clubs to counselling, there's much more to higher education than academics

University is not only about academics — there is so much more that a person learns and does. The time students spend in university shapes their overall personality and outlook, along with helping them make a wise career choice. They get to interact with different individuals, participate in different activities, and join clubs. It is therefore very important for applicants to consider all facilities and programs when selecting their university.

Student life in university means much more than studying, buying textbooks, doing lab work or completing assignments, all of which are important. It also includes areas such as clubs, activities, sports, entertainment, health and wellness, among many others. In addition to these, residence is an important facility that many students look forward to.

Staying on-campus is a whole new experience in itself, apart from being convenient and oftentimes cost-effective compared to off-campus residence. Students are close to peers, class, library, dining, community events, recreation and other facilities.

Moreover, they get to share their experiences, both highs and lows, with friends and other students. Depending on their preference and budget, students can choose among different types of residence, including the traditional dormitory, apartment, suite and shared house.

Students generally spend most of their money on food; however, on-campus dining facilities can help reduce this expense substantially. Students often have a number of meal package deals to choose from depending on their needs. Most university campuses also have campus clinics and hospitals to offer
medical assistance and health services to their students.

This facility is extended as part of registration, where students are automatically enrolled in a health and dental insurance plan. However, one may choose to opt out before the specific deadline.

An important aspect of student
life is sports, and the athletics department of the university is responsible for facilitating fitness memberships, varsity sports, medical clinics and campus recreation. Moreover, there are often a number of clubs, from art to math to chess, that students can join as per their interest. In addition, many campuses offer facilities to participate in drama, perform community service, learn martial arts and take part in countless other extracurricular activities.

Another facility available on campus is career counselling, which is of profound importance for many students. Most students go to college in order to achieve their career goals, and the career services department helps them realize this aim. Working in partnership with staff, alumni and employers, the counselling assists students in choosing the career path that best suits them.

Furthermore, many universities offer chaplaincy services to their students, varying from church worship to outreach services, which can include community service and travelling overseas. Social events such as movie nights, drama classes, seminars and collaborations with other clubs are also organized outside of any religious affiliation.

In addition to these, there are several other facilities that are often available on campus, including the student union, department or centre for aboriginal people, fitness centres, parking, bookstores, and game and lounge areas.

All of these campus facilities have a profound impact on the student’s life and play an integral part in his or her post-secondary experience.
