Musical Scholarships

Many universities offer financial assistance for the musically inclined

Musical scholarships can help fulfil the dreams of passionate musicians looking to pursue a musical career. Music has always been an important part of our lives and over the years, it has become a preferred career choice by many. Though an individual may possess a pre-disposed talent for singing, formal education in this field further hones the skills and boosts the musician’s potential.

Education in any discipline is a costly affair, and music-based programs are no exception.  In this regard, scholarships are the saving grace that universities offer students to encourage their talent and prowess. A budding musician can find solace in the fact that numerous universities offer music scholarships and provide a gateway to formal education in the world of music.

There are several musical scholarships offered by various universities around Canada to deserving students. Universities like Queen's, McGill, Brock, University of Alberta, Carleton, University of Calgary and Concordia all offer musical scholarships.

These range in eligibility criteria and are offered to students pursuing studies in different areas of music, such as ethnomusicology, jazz studies, music composition and music education. In addition, scholarships are also offered to students pursuing study in the fields of music history, music performance, music therapy and musicology.

The quest for a musical scholarship begins with research. Before you submit your application for a scholarship, you need to ensure that you meet all of the requirements, follow all of the guidelines and fill in your application properly.

It is highly essential that you file your candidacy in a proper and organized manner well before the deadline. A good first impression will definitely increase your chances of winning the scholarship. Review all of your documents thoroughly, and be sure to include a resume or portfolio if required.

The last thing you want is to miss any important detail in your application; therefore read all the instructions and prepare for all the pre-requisites carefully. You can easily find all of the details on the website of the university you wish to apply to. Start your preparation well in advance, rather than waiting for the last minute and being forced to hurry through your application.

These scholarships are awarded to deserving students who the university believes will impact the musical world in a significant way. With the increasing costs of tuition, books, activities, instruments, room and board, the scholarships help reduce the financial burden for the potential candidates.

Students differ in their financial backgrounds, and these musical scholarships ensure that their musical talent does not go unnoticed.  The process is is simple: Be informed, respect deadlines and submit a polished application to the university of your choice.
